Question 35

By interchanging the given two numbers (not digits), which of the following equations will NOT be correct?

11 and 17
I. $$400 + 17 - 71 \times 85 \div 11 = 58$$
II. $$1331 \div 17 - 50 + 6 \times 11 = 173$$

Solution

I. $$400 + 17 - 71 \times 85 \div 11 = 58$$

Interchange 11 and 17

$$400 + 11 - 71 \times 85 \div 17 = 58$$

$$400+11-71\times5=58$$

400+11-355=58

411-355=58

$$56\ne58$$

The given equation is not correct. Because it is not satisfying.

II. $$1331 \div 17 - 50 + 6 \times 11 = 173$$

Interchange 11 and 17

$$1331 \div 11 - 50 + 6 \times 17 = 173$$

$$121 - 50 + 102 = 173$$

173 = 173

The given equation is correct.

So equation I is incorrect and equation II is correct.
