Question 33

In an examination, 10% of the applicants were found ineligible, and 85% of the eligible candidates belonged to the general category. If 3645 eligible candidates belonged to other categories, then how many candidates applied for the examination?

Let the total number of applicants be T.

10% are ineligible, so 90% are eligible → Eligible = 0.90T

Of the eligible, 85% are General, so 15% are from Other Categories.

0.15 × 0.90T = 3645

0.135T = 3645

T = 27000
