Question 32

If each of the letters of the English alphabet is assigned odd numerical value beginning with A = 1, B = 3 and so on, then what will be the total value of the letters of the word CARDINAL?

Solution

Given in the question A= 1, B=3, C=5, D=7 ..... And so on.

then we can say that the given alphabet followed the $$ n^{th} alphabet  = 2 \times n -1 $$

the word CARDINAL value

 therefore C = $$  2\times 3 -1 = 5$$ (C = 3 alpgabet position )

A = $$ 2 \times 1 - 1 =  1$$

R = $$ 2\times 18 -1 = 35 $$

D = $$ 2\times 4 -1 = 7 $$

I = $$ 2 \times 9 -1 = 17$$

N = $$ 2 \times 14 -1 = 27 $$

A = $$ 2\times 1  -1 = 1 $$

L = $$ 2 \times 12 -1 = 23$$

total value of CARDINAL = 5+1+35+7+17+27+1+23= 116 Ans
