Question 29

Five people, L, M, N, R and S are sitting in a straight row, facing north, but not necessarily in the same order. Only M sits between L and S. N sits to the immediate right of S. R sits to the immediate left of L. Who sits at the second position from the left end?

Solution

Only M sits between L and S.

As per the above given condition, there are two possible cases which are given below inCase(i) and Case(ii).

Case(i) L M S

Case(ii) S M L

N sits to the immediate right of S.

In Case(ii), N is not possible as per the above-given condition. So this case is eliminated.

Case(i) L M S N
R sits to the immediate left of L.

R L M S N

According to the above arrangement, L sits at the second position from the left end.
