Question 28

In a certain code language, 'BRAVE' is written as '43' and 'BOTH' is written as '41'. How will 'ABACUS' be written in that code language?

Solution

The number of letters within the word is substracted with the sum of the place values of the letters within the word to obtain the code.

BRAVE ==> (2+18+1+22+5) = 48 ==> (48-5) = 43

BOTH ==> (2+15+20+8) = 45 ==> (45-4) = 41

ABACUS ==> 1+2+1+3+21+19 = 47 ==> (47-6) = 41

So 'ABACUS' will be coded as '41' in that code language.
