While posing for a family photo, the father is standing to the right of the son and left of the grandmother. The mother is sitting to the left of her daughter and right of the grandmother. Who is seated in the middle?

Solution

Let the grandmother, father, mother, son and daughter are represented respectively by $$G,F,M,S,D$$ and all are facing north.

The father is standing to the right of the son and left of the grandmother, => S F G.

The mother is sitting to the left of her daughter and right of the grandmother, => G M D.

Combining above equations, we get : S F G M D

Thus, grandmother is sitting in the middle.
