Three-tenth of a number is equal to 36% of another number. If Ow sum of these two numbers is 88. then what is the value of the smaller number ?

Solution

Let the numbers be a and b .

$$\frac{3}{10}$$a = $$\frac{36}{100}$$b

i.e. a = $$\frac{12}{10}$$b

also , a + b = 88
$$\frac{12}{10}$$b + b = 88
b = 40

a = 88 - b = 88 - 40 = 48.
hence the smaller number is 40 .
