Instructions

In each of the following questions two rows of numbers are given. The resultant number in each row is to be worked out separately based on the following rules and the question below the rows is to be answered. The operations of numbers progress from left to right.
Rules
(i) If an even number is followed by another even number they are to be added.
(ii) If an even number is followed by a prime number, they are to be multiplied.
(iii)If an odd number is followed by an even number, even number is to be subtracted from the odd number,
(iv) If an odd number is followed by another odd number the first number is to be added to the square of the second number,
(v) If an even number is followed by a composite odd number, the even number is to be divided by odd number.

Question 158

I. 12 7 16
II. 79 28 15
What is the difference between the resultants of the second row and the first row ?

Solution

I : 12 7 16

Now, even number '12' is followed by prime number '7', rule (ii) is applied = $$12\times7=84$$

Thus, it becomes : 84 16

Even number '84' is followed by another even number '16', thus according to rule (i) = $$84+16=100$$

II : 79 28 15

Odd number '79' is followed by even number '28', hence rule (iii) is followed = $$79-28=51$$

Thus, it becomes : 51 15

Odd number '51' is followed by another odd number '15', rule (iv) is applied = $$51+(15)^2=276$$

$$\therefore$$ Difference between the resultants of the second row and the first row = $$276-100=176$$

=> Ans - (B)
45-18=27
