Question 155

Read the given statements and conclusions carefully. Assuming that the information given in the statements is true, even if it appears to be at variance with commonly known facts, decide which of the given conclusions logically follow(s) from the statements.
Statements:
a) All lights are wires.
b) All wires are switches.
Conclusions:
I. All lights are switches.
II. Some switches are wires.

Solution

The statements can be represented using the following diagram:

Coming to the conclusion:
(1) Since all lights are wires and all wires are switches, necessarily all lights would have to be switches.

(2) Some switches can not be wires, but since all wires are switches, at least some switches would have to be wires.

Hence, Both the conclusions follow through the statements.

Therefore, Option D is the correct answer.
