Sum of five consecutive even numbers is 380. What is the second number in ascending order ?

Solution

Let the five numbers be a, a+2, a+4, a+6 and a+8

So, a+(a+2)+(a+4)+(a+6)+(a+8) = 380
Therefore, 5a + 20 = 380
Or a = 72

Hence, the second number in ascending order is a+2 = 74
