The price of. sugar having gone down by 10%, a consumer can buy 5 kg more sugar for 270.The difference between the original and reduced price per kg is :
let the original price of sugar be y Rs and the original amount purchased be m Kg
Total cost =Rs y x m = Rs ym
Now the price of sugar is decreased by 10% so .
New price = 0.9 x y = 0.9y
New quantity purchased = (m + 5 )kg
New cost = 0.9y x (m+5) = 0.9 ym + 4.5y
As both cost are same so ,
0.9 ym + 4.5y = ym
0.1ym = 4.5y
m = 45kg
It is given that 0.9ym + 4.5y = 270
y = = Rs 6
New cost = 0.9y = Rs 5.4
So difference between new and old cost = 60 paise
