Question 14

If EAST is coded as 180 and NORTH is coded as 375, then how will SOUTH be coded as?

Solution

Each letter is represented by their position in the English alphabetical series.

E-5, A-1, S-19, T-20 = (5+1+19+20) = 45$$\times4$$= 180

N-14, O-15, R-18, T-20, H-8 = (14+15+18+20+8) = 75$$\times5$$=375

Pattern is after adding the digit we have to multiply with the number of alphabet in the words.

SOUTH,

S-19, O-15, U-21, T-20, H-8 = (19+15+21+20+8) = 83$$\times5$$ = 415
