In the following questions two equations numbered I and II are given. You have to solve both the equations and
Give Answer If
a: x > y
b: x ≥ y
c: x < y
d: x ≤ y
e: x = y or the relationship can not be established

Question 122

I. $$x^{2} - 10x + 24 = 0$$
II. $$y^{2} - 9y + 20 = 0$$

Solution

I : $$x^{2} - 10x + 24 = 0$$

=> $$x^2 - 6x - 4x + 24 = 0$$

=> $$x (x - 6) - 4 (x - 6) = 0$$

=> $$(x - 4) (x - 6) = 0$$

=> $$x = 4 , 6$$

II : $$y^{2} - 9y + 20 = 0$$

=> $$y^2 - 4y - 5y + 20 = 0$$

=> $$y (y - 4) - 5 (y - 4) = 0$$

=> $$(y - 4) (y - 5) = 0$$

=> $$y = 4 , 5$$

$$\therefore$$ No relation can be established.
