State Bank of India (SBI) conducts an online exam to recruit candidates for the post of Probationary Officer (PO) for its various branches throughout the country. This year there are approximately 2400 vacancies. After the preliminary exam (Round 1), there is a Mains objective exam followed by a Mains descriptive exam. This is followed by an interview and Group discussion.
The salary includes a basic pay of Rs. 27,620 with 4 advance increments. The official will also be eligible for D.A, H.R.A/Lease rental, C.C.A, Medical and other allowances & perquisites as per rules in force from time to time.
The total compensation per annum would be a minimum of 7.93 lacs and maximum of 12.95 lacs depending on place of posting and other factors.

Graduates in any discipline from any recognized university or any equivalent qualification recognized by the Government of India.
Candidates who are in the final year of graduation can also apply.
The age of the candidates should be between 21 years and 30 years, both inclusive.
The upper age limit is relaxed for the candidates belonging to the following categories.

The SBI PO preliminary examination consists of three sections.
The preliminary exam is of objective type with 3 sections and a composite time of 1 hour. The pattern is as follows:

Every question carries equal marks (1 mark) and ¼ marks will be penalized for every wrong answer in both the objective tests. There are sectional cutoffs in both the Mains and the preliminary exam.
The Descriptive test will be a test of English language and will require the student to write an Essay and a Letter by typing it on the computer. The test will be for 30 mins and for 50 marks.
The marks obtained in the preliminary exam will not be added for the selection and only the marks obtained in the Mains exams - both descriptive and objective will be added to the marks obtained in GD and Interview for the preparation of the final merit list.
