Introduction

State Bank of India (SBI) conducts an online exam to recruit candidates for the post of Probationary Officer (PO) for its various branches throughout the country. After the preliminary exam, there will be Mains (objective test) exam followed by a descriptive test. And the final round will be Group discussion and Interview. 

Eligibility

Education Qualification

Graduates in any discipline from any recognized university or any equivalent qualification recognized by the Government of India.

Candidates who are in the final year of graduation can also apply.

Age Limit

The age of the candidates should be between 21 years and 30 years, both inclusive.

Relaxation of age limit

The upper age limit is relaxed for the candidates belonging to the following categories.

Exam Pattern

Preliminary Exam

The SBI PO preliminary examination consists of three sections.

  1. English Language
  2. Reasoning
  3. Quantitative Ability

The preliminary exam is of objective type with 3 sections and a composite time of 1 hour. 

Every question carries equal marks (1 mark) and ¼ marks will be penalized for every wrong answer. The pattern is as follows:

Mains Exam

The Mains exam has an objective test and a descriptive test.

The Objective Test of 3 hours duration consists of 4 sections for total 200 marks.

Every question carries equal marks (1 mark) and ¼ marks will be penalized for every wrong answer.

There are no sectional cutoff in both the Mains and the preliminary exam.

The Descriptive test will be a test of English language and will require the student to write an Essay and a Letter by typing it on the computer. The test will be for 30 mins and for 50 marks.

The marks obtained in the preliminary exam will not be added for the selection and only the marks obtained in the Mains exams.

Mains exam score (Both descriptive and objective) will be added to the marks obtained in GD and Interview for the preparation of the final merit list.

Salary

The salary includes a basic pay of Rs. 27,620 with 4 advance increments. The official will also be eligible for D.A, H.R.A/Lease rental, C.C.A, Medical and other allowances & perquisites as per rules in force from time to time.

The total compensation per annum would be a minimum of 8.2 lakhs and maximum of 13.08 lakhs depending on place of posting and other factors.
