    IPMAT Marking Scheme 2026

The Integrated Program in Management Aptitude Test (IPMAT) is a nationwide test that measures the aptitude of students looking to enrol in the five-year Integrated Program in Management (BBA + MBA) at IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak.

The total number of marks available for IPMAT varies based on the exam conducted by the institute. Currently, there are two primary IPMAT examinations available:

These two tests have completely different structures, numbers of questions, and overall numbers of points available. The following table gives a breakdown of overall exam structure of IPMAT Indore and Rohtak:

How Does Negative Marking Work in IPMAT?

The IPMAT marking scheme is one of the major differences between the IPMAT tests administered by IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak, since both exams have different negative marking policies.

    IPMAT Indore Negative Marking:

IPMAT Indore paper does not penalise for wrong answers in the short answer section.

    • In the Quantitative Ability (MCQ) section and Verbal Ability (MCQ) section, -1 mark for every question answered wrong.
    • For Quantitative Ability (Short Answer), there are No Negative marks for incorrect answers. This is a "free hit" area of the test and you should therefore try to attempt all the questions in this type of question regardless of whether you are confident of having the correct answer.

    IPMAT Rohtak Negative Marking:

    • Every question in the IPMAT Rohtak paper has a universal negative marking system and all are MCQ questions only.
    • Each question answered incorrectly will incur a deduction of -1 mark, which dramatically increases the emphasis of the importance of accuracy in this paper, as the other sections provide no refuge for guessing.
    • There are 120 total questions on the paper. There is also an increase of the opportunity for there to be "options that are traps" which arise from a simple computational error that became one of the incorrect answers.

TITA vs MCQ Questions in IPMAT

In general, the IPMAT exam has two types of questions which are TITA and MCQ. Understanding the format of the question will help you manage your time.

    TITA (Type In The Answer):

IIM Indore uses TITA ( Type In Your Answer )/Short Answers (SA) formats in the Quantitative Aptitude sections. These Questions examine the candidates conceptual understandings and accuracy to the basic fundamentals.

TITA Quantitative Aptitude section requires you to enter your numerical answer using a keyboard ( onscreen) by typing instead of circling an answer from multiple-choice options.

For TITA Questions, no options are given and for the correct answer candidates get +4 marks and no negative marks for wrong answers.

    MCQ (Multiple Choice Question):

These MCQs require both speed and accuracy from the candidates. Here they can answer these questions by blind guessing. To counter the blind guessing, these questions have -1 negative markings for each wrong answer and +4 marks for correct answers.

In IPMAT Indore, the MCQ sections such as Verbal, QA-MCQ come with 4 possible answers.

IIM Rohtak has traditionally used a multiple-choice question format for all questions.

IPMAT Previous Year Paper Trends (2020–2025)

Reviewing previous examinations will assist you in evaluating whether or not there are longstanding trends and patterns that you can utilize when prioritising preparation for Indore and Rohtak.

IPMAT Indore Previous Year Paper Trends (2020 -2025):

The IPMAT Indore Exams from 2020-2024 maintained the same structure of 90 Questions in a standard format with QA (SA), QA (MCQ) and VA sections assigned to each examination.

The verbal ability section of the exam is historically one with significant weight in scoring as this section receives the most questions.

Based upon data, trends with respect too, questions examined in algebra, arithmetic and geometry are consistent across four years; however the number of questions is not always the same for each year.

IPMAT Rohtak Previous Year Paper Trends (2020 -2025):

The examination patterns of IPMAT Rohtak also have several limitations, however there is an observable trend of three equal sections each consisting of 40 questions(MCQ) as illustrated.

In IPMAT Rohtak's logical reasoning component is also noted to be difficult and to require interpretation and logic rather than just time-related speed.

Difficulty levels within any section have been consistent over the past four years but top performing candidates generally maintain a high level of accuracy in every section regardless of difficulty of the section.

How IPMAT Scores Are Calculated: Step-by-Step?

Step 1 - Calculating Raw Scores

Raw score is the sum total of your correct answers subtracted by the sum total of your incorrect answers.

The candidate gets +4 marks for each right answer in MCQ and -1 mark for each wrong answer in MCQ (Note that: The Short Answer section at IPMAT Indore doesn’t have negative marks). The candidates gets 0 marks for no response MCQ

IPMAT Rohtak has similar calculations and penalties for wrong MCQ questions.

Step 2 - Calculation of ATS by Use Of Normalisation (If Applicable)

Aptitude Test Score (ATS) for IPMAT is calculated by the normalization process which is an important process to generate the candidate merit list. It uses the maximum and the minimum scores obtained by the candidates

Use of normalisation ensures fairness across the multiple exam sessions. The normalization score calculation formula for each section mentioned below:

For Quantitative Ability (MCQ) Section score - 25 * [Candidates's Score - Minimum Score / Maximum Score - Minimum Score]

For Quantitative Ability (SA) Section score - 25 * [Candidates's Score - Minimum Score / Maximum Score - Minimum Score]

For Verbal Ability (MCQ) Section score - 50 * [Candidates's Score - Minimum Score / Maximum Score - Minimum Score]

Step 3 - Composite score and Cutoff Marking

The IPMAT Indore and Rohtak also considers sectional cutoff scores therefore minimums must also be met for each section before accounting for rank.

Traditionally, final ranking also depends on composite score in relation to your final ATS score and personal interview score.

The following table presents Composite score calculation:

    Component

    Score (Weight)

    Aptitude Test Score (ATS)

    65%

    Personal Interview (PI)

    35%

    Composite Score (CS)

Sum of ATS and PI scores (Maximum of 100)

    IPMAT Marking Scheme 2026: Conclusion

Understanding the IPMAT Marking Scheme 2026 is extremely important for smart preparation. Since IPMAT Indore and IPMAT Rohtak have different exam patterns, negative marking rules, and total marks, candidates must clearly know how each paper works. The presence of TITA questions in IPMAT Indore gives students an advantage as there is no penalty for wrong answers in that section. On the other hand, IPMAT Rohtak demands high accuracy because every wrong answer attracts negative marking.

To perform well in IPMAT 2026, students should focus on improving accuracy, understanding section-wise weightage, and practicing according to the latest exam pattern. Since final selection depends on Aptitude Test Score (ATS), sectional cutoffs, and Personal Interview performance, a balanced preparation strategy is the key to securing admission in top IIMs like Indore and Rohtak.
