The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has discontinued its TISSNET entrance exam from 2024. Having said that, if you want to take admission in TISS for any of its PG programs, you will have to clear the national level entrance exam known as CUET-PG that is conducted every year for admissions to PG central universities. This exam is relatively easier than TISSNET but has the same syllabus.

Important Points for CUET-PG: TISS Admissions

Please note that the following changes have been recently made in the CUET-PG entrance exam for admissions in TISS programs:

  1. For every correct answer, you will get +4 marks and for every wrong answer, you will get a negative marking of -1 mark
  2. TISSNET had a 50% weightage in the admission process, while CUET PG has a solid 75% weightage in the final selection process

TISS Mumbai Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai is very simple:

  1. You need a graduation degree in any stream from a recognised university
  2. Final year students pursuing undergraduate degree are also eligible to apply for TISS post graduate programs.

The CUET-PG exam was conducted during 11th March to 28th March in 2024.

TISS is a social sciences focused institute. Hence, it does not offer Master in Business Administration (MBA) degree. But its PG Programme MA in HR&LR; is considered equivalent to MBA in the industry.

The TISS Mumbai selection process is divided into two stages.

Stage 1

You have to clear the CUET-PG entrance exam in the first stage. Your scores in the CUET-PG have a 75% weightage in the TISS admission process.

Stage 2

This stage has a total of 25% weightage in the final admission at TISS.

The components for the Online Assessment (OA) will include the following:

  1. Extempore Reflection on a Given Topic: Panel members will provide a topic relevant to the program of study, and candidates will be required to express his/her views on that topic for a maximum of 2-3 minutes. Candidates have the option of requesting a second topic if they are not comfortable or are not aware of the one initially given. However, there will not be a third choice.
  1. Online Personal Interview (OPI): The panel will interact with candidates to assess their motivation, interest, preparedness, and fundamental knowledge from their undergraduate studies. Additionally, the OPI will examine candidates' understanding of social and economic factors. It's important to note that these are indicative areas of exploration during the OPI. So, prepare well for this round of the interview process.
  1. Online Group Discussion/Case Discussion (OGD/OCD): For postgraduate programs such as the Master of Arts in Human Resources Management and Labour Relations (HRM&LR;) and the Master of Arts in Organisation Development, Change, and Leadership (ODCL), there will be an Online Group Discussion and an Online Personal Interview (OPI). Additionally, for the Master of Arts in Social Entrepreneurship (SE), the second round of selection will include an Online Case Discussion and an OPI. In this round they will try to access candidate's presentation and communication skills.
