The sum of two numbers is 437 and their product is 21982. Find the numbers.

Solution

Let the two numbers be x and y

x + y = 437...........(1)

xy = 21982

(x - y)2 = (x+y)2 - 4xy

(x - y)2 = 103041

(x - y) = 321...........(2)

By solving (1) & (2) we get,

x = 379 and y = 58.

C is correct choice.
