Question 81

Four vessels of equal size are filled with mixtures of milk and water. The strength of milk in the four vessels is 80%, 75%, 60% and 50% respectively. If all four mixtures are mixed, what is the ratio of water to milk in the resultant mixture?

Solution

let the vessels of A, B, C and D contains equal vol of 10 lit

The strength of milk in the four vessels is 80%, 75%, 60% and 50% respectively.

So volume of pure Milk in A= 10 x 0.8= 8.0 Litres.

Volume of pure milk in B= 7.5 Litres.

Volume of pure Milk in C= 6.0Litres.

volume of pure Milk in D= 5.0 Litres

So total volume of pure Milk in all the 4- vessels= (8.0+7.5+6.0+5.0)= 26.5 Litres

percentage of pure milk on all the 4 vessel

= $$\frac{26.5}{40}100$$

= 66.25%

so water

100 - 66.25% = 37.75%

ratio = 66.25 : 33.75

= 2.65 :1.35

= 53 :27
