The sum of the ages of 4 children born at the intervals of 4 years is 48. Find the age of the youngest child.
Solution
Let the age of the smallest child be x
therefore, the age of the other children will be
x,x+4, x+8, x+12 (given that each child is born at the interval of 4 years)
but the sum of all the years of children of equal to 48
=> x + (x+4) + (x+8) + (x+12) =48
= x+x+4+x+8+x+12= 48
= 4x + 24= 48
= 4x=24
= x=6= age of the smallest child
