Question 41

Two cars A and B each of mass $$10^{3}$$ kg are moving on parallel tracks separated by a distance of 10 m, in same direction with speeds 72 km/h and 36 km/h. The magnitude of angular momentum of car A with respect to car B is __________ J.s.

Car A: mass $$10^3$$ kg, speed 72 km/h = 20 m/s. Car B: mass $$10^3$$ kg, speed 36 km/h = 10 m/s. Separation = 10 m.

Angular momentum of A with respect to B:

In B's frame, A has velocity $$20 - 10 = 10$$ m/s (same direction) and perpendicular distance = 10 m.

$$L = m \times v_{rel} \times d = 10^3 \times 10 \times 10 = 10^5$$ J.s

The answer is Option 1: $$10^5$$ J.s.
