Question 4

In an election with only two contesting candidates, 15% of the voters did not turn up to vote, and 50 voters cast invalid votes. It is known that 44% of all the voters in the voting list voted for the winner. If the winner got 200 votes more than the other candidate, then the number of voters in the voting list is_________.

Correct Answer: 5000

Let us assume the total number of voters as 100x.

The number of votes received by the winning candidate is 44x.

And the number of votes received by the other candidate is 44x-200

The number of voters who didn't vote is 15x.

Adding up all should equal 100x.

44x+44x-200+15x+50 = 100x

Solving this, we get x = 50

The number of voters in the voting list = 100x = 5000
