The average of 8 numbers is A and the average of four of these is B. If the average of remaining four is C, then

Solution

The average 8 numbers is A

=> Sum of 8 numbers = 8A

Let average of first four of these is B

=> Sum of first four = 4B

Average of remaining four = C

=> Sum of last 4 = 4C

Also, sum of first 4 numbers + Sum of last 4 numbers = Sum of all the 8 numbers

=> $$4B + 4C = 8A$$

Dividing both sides by 4, we get :

=> $$2A = B + C$$
