Arun went to a nearby city at a speed of 25 km/h and returned at 20 km/h. If the total time for the trip was 1 hour 48 minutes, what is the distance of his place from the city?

Solution

Average speed = $$\frac{2\times 20\times 25}{20+25}$$=$$\frac{100}{45}$$ km/hr
Time = 1 hr 48 min

=$$\frac{108}{60}$$ = $$\frac{9}{5}$$

Total Distance = $$\frac{100}{45}\times \frac{9}{5}$$ = 40 km
Therefore, distance between house and office =$$\frac{40}{2}$$ = 20 km
