Solution

In order to find the approximate value of $$9.5^2$$, we write $$9.5 = 9 + 0.5$$

So, $$9.5^2 = (9+0.5)^2 = 9^2 + 2*0.5*9 + 0.5^2 = 81 + 9 +0.25 = 90.25 \approx 90$$
