Question 199

Out of the fractions $$\frac{4}{9}, \frac{5}{14}, \frac{4}{2}, \frac{3}{4}$$, and $$\frac{2}{3}$$, which is the second highest fraction

Solution

The highest of two fractions can be determined by multiplying the numerator of the first fraction with the denominator of the second fraction and the numerator of the second fraction with the denominator of the first fraction .The side having the highest product is the higher fraction.

From the question, between $$\frac{4}{9} and \frac{5}{14}$$

$$4\times14$$ > $$5\times9$$

Hence $$\frac{4}{9}$$ is the higher fraction.

Similarly by comparing the other fractions in the question we can determine that $$\frac{2}{3}$$ is the second highest.

Hence Option E is the correct answer.
