Question 179

What is the least number that can be added to 3500 to make it a perfect square ?

Solution

We know that $$60^2 = 3600$$. So, let us calculate $$59^2 = 3481$$
Hence, $$3481 < 3500 < 3600$$ and so, the square which is greater than 3500 and closest to it is 3600.

Hence, the least number that must be added to $$3500$$ to make it a perfect square is $$3600-3500 = 100$$
