Question 17

There are six members in a family. This year the father died and he has a son Ramesh, and a son is born to Ramesh. The average age of the family is the same now as it was 10 years back. At what age has the father of Ramesh died?

Before the 10 years the average age of 5 members and father of Ramesh = (age of 5 members +age of Ramesh's father - 60)/6

After death of Ramesh's father, average age of 5 members and Ramesh's son = (age of 5 members +age of Ramesh's son)/6

According to the question,

$$\Rightarrow$$ (Age of 5 members +age of Ramesh's father - 60)/6 = (age of 5 members +age of Ramesh's son)/6

Age of Ramesh's father = 60

($$\because$$ Age of Ramesh's son = 0)
