If each alternate letter in the word ‘FLIPPER’ starting with is changed to the next letter in the English alphabetical series and each of the remaining letters is changed to the previous letters in the English alphabetical series, then how many letters will appear more than once in the new arrangement ?

Solution

If each alternate letter is changed to the next letter and the remaining alphabets are changed to previous letters. Then,

F (+) -> G

L (-) -> K

I (+) -> J

P (-) -> O

P (+) -> Q

E (-) -> D

R (+) -> S

Here, (+) represents next alphabet whereas, ( - ) represents previous alphabet.

Clearly, none of the letters is repeated.
