Question 145

Standard deviation of any five consecutive integers is

As, any five consecutive integers are required, for the sake of easy calculation take the integers as 1,2,3,4,5

Standard deviation , Sigma = $$\sqrt{\ }$$[(x - x bar ) ^ 2]/N

x     Deviation

1      (1-3)^2=4

2      (2-3)^2=1

3      (3-3)^2=0

4      (4-3)^2=1

5      (5-3)^2=4

where xbar = 3 (assumed mean)

Sum of X bar = 4+1+0+1+4 = 10

Therefore, $$\sigma\ $$ = $$\sqrt{\ }$$(10/5)

                   = $$\sqrt{\ }$$2    Ans.
