The sum of five consecutive odd numbers is 265. What is the sum of the largest number and twice the smallest number’?
Solution
Let the 5 consecutive numbers be 2x-3 , 2x-1, 2x+1, 2x+3 , 2x+ 5
2x-3 + 2x-1+ 2x+1+ 2x+3 + 2x+ 5 = 265
10x + 5 = 265
10x = 260
x = 26
Smallest Number = (2 x 26) - 3 = 49
Largest Number = (2 x 26) + 5 = 57
Sum of largest number and twice the smallest number =(2 x 49) + 57 = 155
