The average weight of 38 students of a class was 44 kg. After 12 new students joined the class, the average weight increased by 4.68 kg. What is the average weight of 12 new students who joined the class ? (in kg)

Solution

Total initial weight of the class = 44 * 38 = 1672 kg

Total weight of the class after 12 new students joined = $$(38+12) \times (44+4.68)$$

= 50 * 48.68 = 2434 kg

=> Total weight of the new 12 students = 2434 - 1672 = 762 kg

$$\therefore$$ Average weight of new 12 students = $$\frac{762}{12}$$

= 63.5 kg
