Question 138

Seven persons - P, Q, R, S, T, U and V are standing in a straight line facing towards north. Find the position of S from the right end.
I. P is standing on any of the extreme ends of the line. There are two persons between P and R. There are two persons between R and Q. U is not standing to the immediate left of R.
II. R is standing exactly at the centre. T is standing exactly between R and V. There is only one person between T and U. S is standing to the immediate right of U.

Solution

I : P is standing on any of the extreme ends of the line. There are two persons between P and R, => R is standing at the centre.

There are two persons between R and Q, => Q is standing at the other extreme end.

U is not standing to the immediate left of R.

Arrangement : P/Q _ _ R _ _ Q/P

Thus, it is not sufficient.

II : R is standing exactly at the centre. T is standing exactly between R and V, => let T stand to the immediate left of R and V stands 2nd from left end.

There is only one person between T and U, => U stands to the immediate right of R.

S is standing to the immediate right of U, => S is standing 2nd from right end.

Arrangement : _ V T R U S _

Thus, S is standing 2nd from right end.

$$\therefore$$ Statement II alone is sufficient.

=> Ans - (B)
