Question 133

The ratio of the salaries of A and B is 8 : 9. If A’s salary is increased by 50% and B’s salary is reduced by 25%, their ratio becomes 16 : 9. What is the salary of A?

Solution

Let salary of A = $$Rs. 8x$$

=> Salary of B = $$Rs. 9x$$

After increasing A's salary by 50 %, A's new salary = $$8x + \frac{50}{100} \times 8x = 12x$$

Decreasing B's salary by 25 %, B's new salary = $$9x - \frac{25}{100} \times 9x = \frac{27x}{4}$$

Now, ratio of A's and B's salary = $$\frac{12x}{\frac{27x}{4}}$$

= $$\frac{16}{9}$$, which is already given.

Thus, we cannot find the salary of A.
