Let the two numbers be 5x and 6x. When 3 is added to both, ration becomes 7:8
$$\frac{5x+3}{6x+3}=\frac{7}{8}$$

Cross multiplying, we get: x = 3/2
Hence, sum of the two numbers = 11x = 33/2
