Each of the questions below consists of a question and two statements numbered I and II given below it. You have to decide whether the data provided in the statements are sufficient to answer the question. Read both the statements and select the most appropriate answer.
Seven persons- P, Q, R, S, T, U and V - are standing in a straight line facing north. What is the position of V from the right end of the line ?
I. Q stands at one of the extreme ends of the line. Only two persons are standing between Q and R. V is an immediate neighbour of R.
II. S stands at one of the extreme ends of the line. Only four persons are standing between S and T. V is an immediate neighbour of T.
Clearly, in each statement alone, there is not sufficient data to find the position of V, thus by combining both statements, we get :
Q stands at one extreme end and S at the other.
=> Q _ _ _ _ _ S Â Â (or) Â Â S _ _ _ _ _ Q
Only two persons are standing between Q and R.
=> Q _ _ R _ _ S Â Â (or) Â Â S _ _ R _ _ Q
Only four persons are standing between S and T.
=> Q T _ R _ _ S Â Â (or) Â Â S _ _ R _ T Q
V is an immediate neighbour of R and T.
=> Q T V R _ _ S Â Â (or) Â Â S _ _ R V T Q
Thus, the position of V can be either 5th from right end or 3rd from right end, it cannot be determined.
$$\therefore$$ Both statements even together are insufficient.
