In a village, 30% of the villagers belong to upper economic class. The number of villagers who belong to middle economic class are 3/2 of the number of villagers who belong to lower economic class. If 6860 villagers belong to lower economic class, what is the population of the village ?
Let the total population of village = $$100x$$
Population of upper economic class = $$\frac{30}{100} \times 100x = 30x$$
Population of lower economic class = $$6860$$
Population of middle economic class = $$\frac{3}{2} \times 6860 = 10,290$$
=> Population of middle and lower economic class
= $$100x - 30x = 6860 + 10290$$
=> $$70x = 17150$$
=> $$x = \frac{17150}{70} = 245$$
$$\therefore$$ Total population = 100 * 245 = 24500
