Each number is multiplied by 2 and then 1 is subtracted from it.
3 $$\times 2 - 1$$ = 5
5 $$\times 2 - 1$$ = 9
9 $$\times 2 - 1$$ = 17
17 $$\times 2 - 1$$ = 33
33 $$\times 2 - 1$$ = 65
Similarly,
7 $$\times 2 - 1$$ = 13
13 $$\times 2 - 1$$ = 25
25 $$\times 2 - 1$$ = 49
49 $$\times 2 - 1$$ = 97
