IPMAT 3-Month Preparation Plan

The Integrated Program in Management Aptitude Test (IPMAT) is a nation-wide aptitude examination used for admission into the five-year integrated program in management (BBA + MBA) at both IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak. The exam is designed to assess candidates' quantitative abilities, verbal abilities, and logical thinking in order to identify high-potential thinkers who may become future leaders of business.

IPMAT 3-month preparation strategy

Before starting the monthly plan for preparing the IPMAT, it is important to understand the preparation strategy and Core process principles.

Concept Clarity First/Then Practice

Begin your first month with strengthening fundamentals, concept clarity, use this month to build your base concept of fundamentals, then move into more specific and high level questions.

Concentrate On Balanced Sections

Do not ignore the Verbal Ability Section and the Quantitative Ability (Short Answer) Section. The Verbal Ability Section is often the reason most students underperform due to inadequate preparation for these two sections.

Utilize Mock Testing

At the end of month 1, you should have started sectional tests and Full-length mock tests by the end of month 2.

Daily/Weekly/Monthly Revision

Allot minimum of 30-45 Minutes per day for revision and revise the topics learned at the end of every week and month.

IPMAT 3-Month Study Plan

We have created a month-wise preparation schedule covering basic to advanced level of topics and question practice. If you want a month-wise preparation plan, please go through this following part.

Month 1: Concept Building and Fundamentals

The first month focuses on building a strong foundation in all three sections. At this stage, the goal is to understand core concepts and common question types rather than focusing heavily on speed.

Quantitative Ability, the plan starts with arithmetic and number-based topics such as factors, multiples, remainders, even–odd concepts, and prime numbers. These topics are important because they appear frequently in problem-solving and data sufficiency questions. Algebra basics are also introduced gradually.

Verbal Ability, students work on Grammar fundamentals, Vocabulary building and understanding passage structure and argument logic. The focus is on identifying main ideas, supporting ideas, conclusions, and premises. This helps in both Reading Comprehension and Vocabulary building.

Logical Reasoning, the initial focus is on Linear & Circular Arrangements, Puzzles, Blood Relations, and Syllogisms.

During Month 1, the plan includes:

  • Arithmetic and number properties (factors, remainders, divisibility, primes)
  • Basic algebra and equation handling
  • RC fundamentals: main idea, tone, and structure of the passage
  • Linear & Circular Arrangements, Puzzles, Blood Relations, and Syllogisms.
  • Regular topic-wise practice sets
  • Concept review and note-making

The goal of Month 1 is concept clarity, strengthening fundamentals and accuracy, not speed.

Month 2: Application and Mixed Practice

In the second month, the plan moves from pure learning to application. Students start solving mixed sets of questions and gradually improve speed and accuracy, introduce time pressure.

Quantitative Ability expands to include algebraic manipulation, constraints, equations, and structured problem-solving approaches. Arithmetic topics such as ratios, percentages, and averages are reinforced through higher-level questions.

Verbal Ability focuses more on reading passages and topics like Para jumbles, Fill in the blanks, Vocabulary revision, RC practice sets. Students work on strengthening, weakening, and evaluating arguments, along with deeper reading comprehension practice.

Logical Reasoning, becomes more intensive, covering Coding-Decoding, Arrangements , Syllogisms. Students practice sets that require combining critical thinking and analytical skills.

This phase includes:

Section

High-Weightage Topics

Priority Level

Quantitative Ability

Arithmetic, Algebra, Number System

Very High

VA (MCQ)

Reading Comprehension, Para-jumbles

High

QA (Short Answer)

Functions, Logarithms, Matrices

High (Indore Specific)

Logical Reasoning

Coding-Decoding, Arrangements, Syllogisms

Medium

By the end of Month 2, students should be able to:

  • Attempt questions faster
  • Recognize patterns in mistakes
  • Apply strategies instead of guessing

The main objective of this phase is to build speed with control and improve decision-making under time pressure.

Month 3: Testing, Revision, and Exam Readiness

The final month is focused mainly on testing and revision rather than learning new topics. Students attempt mock tests and sectional tests to simulate real exam conditions.

Mock test analysis becomes a key part of preparation. Instead of just checking scores, students review:

  • Wrong answers
  • Time spent per question
  • Weak topic areas
  • Accuracy patterns

Revision is done topic-wise using short notes created during the first two months. Formula review, logic frameworks, and question-type strategies are strengthened.

Month 3 mainly includes:

  • Full-length IPMAT mock tests
  • Sectional tests for QA, VA, and LR
  • Targeted revision of weak topics
  • Error-log review
  • Final strategy refinement

The goal of this month is to ensure:

  • Stable performance across sections
  • Better time management
  • Confidence under exam pressure

How to prepare for IPMAT in 3 months

Don't Disregard Advanced Mathematics: High-Performance Mathematics, Including Functions, Limits, Mutable Functions, and Matrix Algebra is also of great Interest to IIM Indore. If You are Non-Mathematically Trained, Be Prepared to Devote Two Weeks To Prepare for These Topics.

2-Hour Reading Every Day: Spend 2 Hours everyday reading various topics like science, philosophy, history to get a strong hold in RC Passages.

Consistent Studying: A 10 Hour Single Week Study Session Is An Intrinsic Waste Of Time Compared To A Minimum Of 3 Hours Consistently Studied Per Day.

Preparing for the IPMAT exam in 3 months is possible if you follow a clear study plan and stay consistent. First, focus on understanding the basics of Quantitative Ability, Verbal Ability, and Logical Reasoning. Once your concepts are clear, start solving mixed questions and practice with time limits. Taking mock tests regularly will help you improve your speed and accuracy. Make sure you give equal attention to all sections for better overall performance in IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak.

In the last month, focus mainly on revision and mock tests. Do not try to learn too many new topics at the end. Instead, revise important formulas, review your mistakes, and work on managing your time better.
