Common Mistakes to Avoid in the IPMAT Verbal Ability Section
There are many mistakes that students make which leads to losing marks in the verbal ability section, and these mistakes are avoidable. Here are some of common mistakes to avoid in the IPMAT verbal ability section:
Forgetting About the Negative Marking in MCQ's: Guessing too wildly on an MCQ could negatively impact your score and rank. Don’t guess the answer blindly, can do some calculative guess when left with only 2 options.
Assuming the verbal ability section is easy: Many students only study for Quant and do not pay attention to VA since there are the same number of marks on both. VA can provide you with a huge score to boost your overall rank, so you should not skip this section.
Not Keeping a Vocab Journal: If you do not write down words you learned from taking practice tests, most of the time you will have forgotten those words in a week of time.
Taking Too Long to Answer One RC: If you cannot understand the passage you are reading about an obscure philosophy or some other type of similar subject matter, then mark it for review and move ahead. You will get your marks in the other questions later.
Ignoring the RC topic: Many candidates will focus only on grammar and vocabulary and avoiding the reading comprehension since they may see it as too difficult; however, since reading comprehension in the section of verbal ability that carries the most weight, if you do not prepare for it then it could have a serious impact on your overall score.
Memorizing the vocabulary without context: When you pick a synonym you should consider how the word is being used rather than just how it reads based on the dictionary definition otherwise, you may choose a word that makes your answer incorrect.
