IIMB UG 2026 Expected Cutoff: Category-Wise Marks

IIMB UG 2026 Expected Cutoff

The IIMB UG Admissions Test is a computer-based test measuring the candidates' analytical, quantitative, verbal, and logical skills. There are 60 MCQs, which carry a maximum total of 180 raw marks (+3 for each correct MCQ, -1 for an incorrect one).

The first thing to keep in mind is that the IIMB UG has two distinct cut-off layers:

  • Minimum Qualifying cutoff: the qualifying percentile in each section and overall, which, if not reached, the application is rejected summarily.
  • Competitive cutoff: the score range that actually nets a call for a PI. This is always higher than the minimum, since IIMB itself admits that those called for interviews always fell above published minimums.

IIMB UG Previous Year Cutoff Trends

Learning from past cycles allows us to understand how the entrance exam has changed over the years. IIM Bangalore opened its UG programs in response to an increase in demand for data native economists and quantitative decision-makers.

The Evolution of the Exam & Cutoffs

The Inaugural Administration Cycle: The first administration of the IIMB UG entrance exam was held throughout the key Indian urban centers. IIMB UG Syllabus characteristics were new, and coaching materials were limited, leading to high percentile scores of raw 98-105 marks in the general category. The overall General cutoff for the final stage-one list stood at raw 114 marks.

Rise in Math & Computing consciousness: At following cycles, students got accustomed to the paper pattern (NCERT Class 10 to 12 mathematics basis alignment). Introduction of specific mock tests by other nationwide test-prep institutes raised the typical mark in the amount of the quantitative part.

Percentile Rigidity vs. Raw Score Shifts: Though the official eligibility percentiles (80%ile for General, 50%ile for OBC/EWS, 40%ile for SC, 30%ile for ST) have remained more or less constant in the admission policy documents, the raw scores needed to attain those percentiles have increased by an average of 6-10 marks per testing cycle.

IIMB UG 2026 Section-Wise Cutoff

In entrance exams, a good score in English can make up for a poor score in Math, but IIM Bangalore has strict sectional cut-offs. Each section in IIM Bangalore's selection process has a minimum required percentile. Additionally, there is an additional requirement to meet the positive score criterion in each of the three sections, which is also a requirement.

The 60 questions are distributed across three distinct sections:

Factors Affecting IIMB UG 2026 Cutoff

It is not a fixed cutoff. It varies depending on:

  • Paper difficulty: a more difficult QADI paper will mean lower raw cutoffs; an easier paper will mean higher.
  • Applications/Examinees: Over 12,000 applications in 2025, with increased demand intensifying competition.
  • Seats: small intake due to 40 seats per programme and fixed reservations.
  • Programme preference: Data Science had a bigger overall interview shortlist than Economics.
  • Class X marks: board marks and Maths marks are added to get both pre-PI and post-PI marks.
  • Gender diversity points: Five gender diversity points before PI can impact shortlisting.
  • Percentile & standardisation: minimums are built on the test-taker universe, i.e., are dependent on the other test-takers' performance.
  • A good personal interview: an applicant with a weak entrance test score can compensate if they do well in the personal interview, which carries 40 marks after the interview.

IIMB UG 2026 Expected Cutoff: Conclusion

The IIMB UG 2026 Expected Cutoff gives candidates an idea of the marks required to qualify for the next stage of admission. General category candidates can target around 120–130 marks, while a score of 130–140 marks can provide a stronger competitive position. The actual cutoff will depend on the exam difficulty, number of candidates, and overall performance. The expected category-wise cutoff ranges are only estimates and should not be considered official.

Candidates should focus on achieving a good overall score while meeting the required sectional cutoffs. Since the IIMB UG admission process also includes a Personal Interview, scoring above the expected cutoff does not guarantee final admission. A balanced preparation strategy, good accuracy, and strong interview performance can improve the chances of selection.
