IIM Kozhikode BMS Exam Day Strategy 2026

The IIM Kozhikode BMS (Bachelor of Management Studies) entrance exam is one of the most important undergraduate management exams in India. It gives students a chance to get into the 5-year integrated BMS program at one of the top IIMs in the country. All the months of hard work you have put in comes down to this one day, and how you perform here can decide whether you get a seat at IIM Kozhikode or spend another year preparing.

Before anything else, you need to understand the basic structure of the IIM Kozhikode BMS exam. The exam is held in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode and has two main sections. This article covers everything you need to know about the IIM Kozhikode BMS exam day strategy 2026 - including exam day instructions, time management tips, last-minute preparation, and a section-by-section approach.

IIM Kozhikode BMS 2026 Exam Day Instructions

Every candidate appearing for IIM Kozhikode BMS 2026 must follow the official exam day instructions carefully. Even a small mistake - like arriving late or forgetting a document - can get you denied entry at the exam centre. Here is what you need to know.

Documents to Carry:

  1. IIM Kozhikode BMS 2026 Admit Card printed on A4 size paper. No candidate will be allowed into the exam hall without it. Print two copies just to be safe.
  2. One valid photo ID: Aadhaar Card, Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, or Driving Licence. It must be a government-issued document.
  3. One recent passport-size photograph should match the photo you submitted during registration.
  4. Category Certificates: Carry this if you belong to SC, ST, OBC-NCL, or PwD category.

Reporting Time & Entry Deadlines:

The IIM Kozhikode BMS exam will be held across multiple cities and time slots. You must reach the exam centre at least 60 minutes before your scheduled slot. The gates are usually closed 30 minutes before the exam starts, and no candidate is allowed entry after that. Check your admit card carefully for your exact reporting time, and factor in travel time and traffic delays.

Items NOT Allowed Inside the Exam Hall:

  1. Mobile phones, smartwatches, or any electronic gadget that can be used for communication
  2. Calculators - the exam is designed to be solved without one
  3. Earphones, Bluetooth devices, or wireless earbuds
  4. Books, notes, or any printed study material
  5. Wallets, handbags, or large personal belongings

Rules Inside the Exam Hall:

  • Every candidate gets their own assigned computer terminal. Do not change your seat without permission from the invigilator.
  • Do all rough work only on the scratch pad or whiteboard provided to you. Do not write on the desk or any other surface.
  • Use the 15-minute practice time wisely. Read all the on-screen instructions carefully before the exam timer starts.
  • Stay quiet during the exam. If you face any technical issue, raise your hand and wait for the invigilator.
  • Do not leave your seat without informing the invigilator first.

IIM Kozhikode BMS Time Management Strategy

Time management is the one skill that separates high scorers from the rest on exam day. With 90 questions in 120 minutes across two sections, every minute counts. There is no room for getting stuck on one question for too long.

Here is a proven time management plan for both sections of the IIM Kozhikode BMS 2026 exam:

Section

Total Time

First Pass (Easy Qs)

Second Pass (Medium Qs)

Review Buffer

Quantitative Aptitude (45 Qs)

Verbal Ability (45 Qs)

The Two-Pass Method

The best way to tackle each section is the two-pass approach:

1st Pass (Speed Round): Go through all questions quickly. If a question looks easy and you can solve it within 60 seconds, answer it and move on. If a question seems hard, mark it for review and skip it. The goal of the first pass is to collect all the easy marks first.

2nd Pass (Deliberate Round): Now go back to the marked questions. Give each one a maximum of 90 to 120 seconds. If you still cannot solve it, leave it. Do not let one difficult question eat up the time you could use for three easier ones.

Difficulty Level

Target Time per Question

Action if You Go Over Limit

Easy

45-60 seconds

Attempt with confidence and move on

Medium

90-120 seconds

Mark and continue; revisit in Pass 2

Difficult

Max 150 seconds

Skip. Negative marking makes blind guessing risky

Verbal Ability: Your Scoring Section

Most students underestimate the Verbal section, but this can actually be your fastest scoring area if you approach it smartly. For Reading Comprehension passages, read the questions first before reading the passage - this saves time. For vocabulary, grammar, and sentence-based questions, try to answer within 45 seconds. Target 35-38 correct answers with 90%+ accuracy in this section.

IIM Kozhikode BMS 2026 Last Minute Strategy

The last 48 to 72 hours before the exam are just as important as the months you spent preparing. What you do in these final days affects your mental state and physical performance on the actual day.

48 Hours Before the Exam:

  • Stop taking mock tests or full-length practice papers. Your preparation phase is done - trust it.
  • Go through your formula sheets, quick reference notes, and your personal error log.
  • Lightly revise grammar rules, idioms, and vocabulary lists for the Verbal section.
  • Look up your exam centre on Google Maps. If you are not familiar with the area, do a practice run of the route before exam day.
  • Double-check all your documents - admit card, photo ID, passport-size photo. Print an extra copy of the admit card.

The Night Before the Exam:

  • Do only light revision - go through your formula cheat sheet and commonly asked question types. Do not start any new topics.
  • Lay out everything you need to carry the next day - admit card, ID proof, photographs, a water bottle, and stationery.
  • Eat a light, healthy dinner. Avoid heavy, greasy food that might make you feel uncomfortable the next morning.
  • Sleep at least 7 to 8 hours. A well-rested brain recalls information much better than a tired one.
  • Set two or three alarms, then relax. Worrying at night will not change your preparation.

Exam Day Morning:

  • Wake up at least 2-3 hours before your reporting time.
  • Have a balanced breakfast - something with complex carbs like oats or whole-grain toast and a protein source like eggs or curd. Avoid too much caffeine.
  • Do 10 minutes of light activity - a short walk or some deep breathing exercises to wake your mind up.
  • Do a final quick look at your formula sheet - not more than 15-20 minutes of revision.
  • Leave early. Arriving stressed because of a traffic delay is the last thing you want on exam day.

What Should I Do on IIM Kozhikode BMS Exam Day?

Here is a clear, step-by-step breakdown of what the exam day will look like, from the time you leave home to the moment you hit the submit button.

Before the Exam: At the Centre

Eat for Energy: Have breakfast that gives you steady energy. Oatmeal, poha, or eggs are good options. Avoid sugary foods - they give a quick energy spike that crashes halfway through the exam.

Arrive Early: Be at the exam centre at least 60 to 90 minutes before gate closing time. Security checks, biometric verification, and seat finding all take time. Give yourself enough buffer.

Drink Water in Moderation: Take a few sips of water before entering. Do not overdrink - you do not want to step out during a 60-minute section.

Do Not Discuss the Exam with Others: Avoid conversations outside the centre about expected cutoffs or how much others have studied. It will only increase your stress levels.

Calm Yourself Before Starting: Once you sit at your computer, close your eyes and take five slow, deep breaths. Remind yourself that you are prepared. Commit to attempting easy questions first and not panicking over hard ones.

During the Exam: Section by Section

Quantitative Aptitude Section - 45 Questions, 60 Minutes

  • In your first pass, focus on arithmetic, percentages, ratios, and simple algebra. These are usually the fastest to solve.
  • Do not spend more than 90 seconds on any question in the first pass.
  • Use the elimination method for MCQs wherever possible to narrow down choices.
  • If you are less than 60% confident about an answer, skip it because of negative marking.

Verbal Ability Section - 45 Questions, 60 Minutes

  • Start with grammar-based and vocabulary questions. They are the quickest to answer.
  • For Reading Comprehension passages, read the questions before reading the passage. Then skim the passage for relevant information.
  • Do not overthink grammar and sentence-based questions. Your first instinct is usually correct.
  • For RC, try to answer inference and main idea questions before detail-based ones - they are usually faster to crack.
