Degree wise Break-up of Expenditure of a Family in a Month:
Total amount spent in a month = ₹45,800
What is the ratio of the amount spent by the family on medical expenses to the amount spent on groceries?
We have the degrees in the pie chart for all the expenditure categories. This can be used to identify the fraction of the total amount spent on that particular expense.
For instance, Investments has $$54^{\circ\ }$$. This means that of the total (which is $$360^{\circ\ }$$ ), the amount corresponding to 54 is spent in investments. The total given is 45800, so we have the amount spent on investments is $$\frac{54^{\circ\ }}{360^{\circ\ }}\times\ 45800=6870$$
Similarly the others are calculated and tabulated as follows:
So ratio of amount spent in medical expenses to the amount spent in groceries is$$\frac{5038}{10534}=\ \frac{2519}{5267}=0.4782...$$
Now, of the choices given , option D $$\frac{11}{23}=0.4782...$$ is the closest. Hence, D is the correct choice.
