Question 57

One of the statements below contains a word used incorrectly. Choose the option which has the incorrect or inappropriate usage of the word.

The two words used in the options are 'lightning' and 'lightening', while the former refers to the electrical discharge produced during rain or thunderstorms, the latter refers to the drop in the level of heaviness of something. We also have the word 'lighting' which means to 'light' something or to put something on fire. Option A has the correct usage of the word 'lighting' where a lamp is being lighted. Option B says that two men were struck by lightning during a thunderstorm, and is correct. Option D also presents the correct usage of the term 'lightening', where a load has been 'lightened'. Option C is incorrect as 'skin lightning products' should instead be 'skin lightening products' since 'lightening' can also refer to reducing the level of darkness of something.
