Instructions

Five plays A, B, C, D and E are to be staged from Monday to Friday of a week. On each day, only one play will be staged. D or E should not be either the first or last to be staged. E should be immediately followed by C. B should be staged immediately after D. One play is staged between A and B.

Question 54

Which is the first play to be staged?

This is a scheduling LR set. We begin by constructing a table to represent the schedule.

We are told that D or E should not be either the first or last to be staged, so they can't be on Monday or Friday.

Next, we are told that E should be immediately followed by C, and B should be staged immediately after D. So, we get two blocks, EC and DB.

There is only one play between A and B . So it can be DB_A or ADB. If there is one play between B and A and A is screen after B, then in the blank either C or E has to come, but in that case they will not be immediately following each other. Hence the only possible block is ADB.

Now. EC cant be before ADB , as E cant be first, so the order has to be ADBEC.

Putting this in table we have,

So, we have the first play to be staged is A.
