Ram and Shyam run a race between points A and B, 5 km apart. Ram starts at 9 AM from A at a speed of 5km/hr reaches B and comes back to A at the same speed. Shyam starts at 9:45AM from A at a speed of10km/hr, reaches B and comes back to A at the same speed.
Ram started at 9:00 AM and is moving at a speed of 5 km/hr; thus, he will reach B at 10:00 AM.
Shyam started at 9:45 AM and is moving at a speed of 10km/h; thus, in the next 15 minutes, he will travel $$10\times0.25=2.5$$ km, and he is now 2.5 km away from B.
Now, at 10:00 AM, Ram will start moving towards A, and Shyam will move towards B. This means that they are both moving towards each other now, and the distance between them is 2.5 km.
We will apply the relative concept to calculate the time taken to meet.
$$t=\dfrac{2.5}{5+10}=\dfrac{2.5}{15}=\dfrac{1}{6}$$ hours
$$t=10$$ minutes
Thus, they will meet 10 minutes after 10 AM. Therefore, the meeting time is 10:10 AM.
