Question 12

After adding 5 to both numerator and denominator of the following fractions, arrange them in ascending order of the magnitude of change in their values.
A. $$\frac{2}{3}$$
B. $$\frac{3}{4}$$
C. $$\frac{4}{5}$$
D. $$\frac{5}{6}$$

After adding 5 to numerator and denominator of all the fractions,

The fractions will be:

A=$$\dfrac{2+5}{3+5}=\dfrac{7}{8}$$

B=$$\dfrac{3+5}{4+5}=\dfrac{8}{9}$$

C= $$\dfrac{4+5}{5+5}=\dfrac{9}{10}$$

D= $$\dfrac{5+5}{6+5}=\dfrac{10}{11}$$

So, change in value of A = 7/8 - 2/3 = 5/24

change in value of B = 8/9 - 3/4 = 5/36

change in value of C = 9/10 - 4/5 = 5/50

change in value of D = 10/11 - 9/10 =  1/110 = 5/550

Clearly 550>50>36>24

So, 5/550<5/50<5/36<5/24

So, change in value of D<C<B<A

So, option C is the correct answer.
