Question 1

Ram purchased 3 oranges at Rs. 20 each and 5 mangoes at Rs. 38 each and then sold them by offering discounts of 25% and 20% on the fixed marked prices of oranges and mangoes, respectively. If he earned a profit of 50% on selling the oranges alone, and a total profit of 32% on selling all the fruits, then the marked price of each mango was _________

Correct Answer: 60

Cost prices: 3 oranges at Rs. 20 each = Rs. 60; 5 mangoes at Rs. 38 each = Rs. 190. Total cost = Rs. 250.

Selling price of oranges (50% profit on Rs. 60) = Rs. 90.

If marked price of orange = $$O$$, then $$3 \times 0.75 O = 90 \Rightarrow O = 40$$.

Total selling price (32% profit on Rs. 250) = Rs. 330.

So selling price of mangoes = $$330 - 90 = 240$$.

If marked price of mango = $$M$$, then $$5 \times 0.80 M = 240 \Rightarrow M = 60$$.
