XAT 2022 Marking Scheme: Exam Pattern

XAT Exam Pattern 2022 – The XAT exam pattern has been predefined on the official website of XLRI Jamshedpur. The XAT 2022 exam pattern contains the exam mode, duration, sections from which questions are answered, marking scheme, and other information.

The XAT 2022 exam pattern is the same as the previous year, which means the XAT 2022 question paper will have four sections – Decision Making, Verbal & Logical Ability, Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation, and General Knowledge – with MCQs from relevant topics. Each part of the XAT 2022 will feature 22-27 questions in MCQ format, with four options to pick from. According to the XAT exam pattern 2022, the entrance exam will be a computer-based test on January 2, 2022.

XAT Exam 2022 Pattern: Highlights

The XAT question paper is divided into two sections and two sections. There is a negative marking for incorrect answers. Take a look at the following highlights of the XAT exam pattern:

XAT Exam Pattern 2022: Key Changes

The XAT Exam Pattern was updated in 2021, and the XAT 2022 exam would have only four sections, according to the new paper pattern. The following significant changes have occurred in the XAT Exam pattern:

  • The paper now includes Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions with no negative marking.
  • All questions will be MCQs of the objective variety.
  • The section on essay writing has been removed.
  • The paper will contain 100 questions, as compared to 99 questions in prior years.
  • Candidates have 30 minutes after the exam begins to submit their answers.
  • GK scores will not be included while calculating the final XAT score.
  • The XAT paper duration has been lowered from 210 minutes to 180 minutes.

XAT Exam 2022: Sectional Pattern

According to the XAT paper design, the XAT 2022 exam paper will be divided into four sections, each of which will be divided into two portions.

  • After completing the first three portions in the first 165 minutes, candidates can proceed to the GK segment.
  • For the first three sections of the XAT paper, there is no sectional restriction. The GK part, on the other hand, will have a time limit of 15 minutes.
  • Part 1 of the paper allows candidates to flip between sections.
  • Candidates will be allowed an additional 25 minutes to complete the first three sections.
  • The GK segment does not have a time limit.

XAT 2022 Marking Scheme

  • For each correct response, one mark will be awarded.
  • For each incorrect response, 0.25 points will be deducted.
  • More than eight unanswered consecutive questions will result in a 0.10 point deduction.
  • In the General Knowledge portion, there will be no negative marking.
  • The General Knowledge section scores will not be used to calculate the XAT score.

XAT Exam Section Wise Pattern

Verbal and Logical Ability

  • The XAT 2022 Verbal and Logical Ability section consists of 26 objective-type questions. 
  • The Verbal & Logical Ability component of the XAT exam pattern is meant to include questions on grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and critical reasoning to be completed in around 35 minutes. 
  • Four to six reading comprehension questions are asked, for a total of 14 to 16 questions. 
  • There are 8 to 10 questions in the verbal ability segment. 
  • The difficulty level ranges from moderate to difficult.

Decision Making

  • Candidates should score pretty well in decision making to make it to XLRI, as it is considered one of the most important sections in the XAT exam design. 
  • A total of 21 questions are required from decision making, divided into 7 to 8 sets of 2 to 3 questions each. 
  • This section’s difficulty level is usually moderate to difficult.

Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation

  • According to the most recent XAT exam format, a total of 28 questions will be asked from the Quant and DI sections. 
  • There will be both individual and group questions. 
  • Each set will consist of 3 to 4 questions to be answered on the paper. 
  • Candidates may expect a moderate to difficult level of difficulty. 
  • The majority of questions will be about numbers, geometry, and mensuration, followed by arithmetic, Venn diagrams, and functions.

General Knowledge

  • GK in any entrance exam cannot be specifically specified because the subject area is rather broad. 
  • The XAT general awareness paper design includes everything under the sun. 
  • The GK component of the XAT Exam consists of 25 questions that must be answered in 15 minutes. 
  • The fact that the marks obtained are not taken into account while calculating XAT scores is a major element of this section.

XAT 2022 Exam Important Instructions

Candidates must follow the directions when taking the XAT Exam. The guidelines are vital for the new XAT exam format and will assist you in passing the computer-based exam.

  • A timer will be displayed in the upper right-hand corner of the computer screen to aid in time management.
  • The candidates are not required to answer the questions in any particular order.
  • While answering the questions, you will be given the chance to examine the number of attempted and unattempted questions.

If necessary, candidates can change their response to another option. You can also answer the questions in any order, but you can only see one at a time. 

There are a few more instructions that should be taken into account:

  • You can proceed to the next or previous question by selecting ‘Next Question’ or ‘Previous Question’.
  • To change the response, click the ‘Erase’ option at the bottom of the screen.
  • To review a specific question, applicants can use the ‘tag’ option to bookmark it and then ‘detag’ it if necessary.
  • A colour palette on the right-hand side of the screen indicates the status of each inquiry.

The following are the different colours versus the question status they represent:
