Find the greatest number which on dividing 1580 and 3800 leaves remainders 8 and 1 respectively.

Solution

Remainder is 8 and 1 respectively.

So, 1580-8 = 1572 & 3800-1 = 3799 will be completely divisible by the required number. So We require the HCF(1572 and 3799)

HCF(1572 and 3799) = 131
